This round table will look at how Highland has endeavoured to empower its classroom teachers to take on a leadership role within their own settings, both in primary and secondary schools.

A Curriculum for Excellence promotes the development of literacy across all settings and all subjects, and it is through this medium that aspiring leaders have risen to the challenge of ‘making a change to make a difference’ for our learners and our teachers and how this can be sustained.

This workshop will outline the approach used at all levels; how the authority supported their in-school literacy coordinators and how the coordinators in turn inspired, motivated and led literacy across learning. A coordinator will be on hand to discuss her experiences, including the role of her Head Teacher, and the difference that taking on this responsibility has made to her own leadership skills.

There will be opportunities for questions and small group discussion.
