Leading Interdisciplinary Learning in Argyll and Bute: Successes and challenges

This round table workshop will look at how interdisciplinary learning is being developed in Argyll and Bute. The work being undertaken involves leadership teams working across cluster groups developing strategic plans. These plans are then turned into operational plans by teams of creative teachers. You will have the opportunity to see how this work has been developed from the New Basics approach of Queensland, Australia. Examples of themes undertaken will be explored and the opportunity to discuss the quality planning process which is developing. Supporting material will be available.

Anne Paterson is a Quality Improvement Officer in Argyll and Bute and is one of the lead officers who has been developing Interdisciplinary Learning within the authority. Anne was Head Teacher of Inveraray Primary and was awarded Scottish Head Teacher of the Year in 2006. This achievement reflected her creative approach to developing the curriculum with particular emphasis to learning through the environment. She has been involved at authority level since October 2006 on curriculum development within Curriculum for Excellence.
